PostSubject: Test Run. Even Slower Than he Thought?    Wed May 28, 2014 2:26 pm

The small patch of forest just outside of the DWMA, otherwise regarded as the training grounds. It was cooler here in the perpetual shade of the trees than it ever was in any other part of the city. Still, it never stopped astounding Luis that this place could exist in the desert. "Must have on hell of a keeper." He muttered quietly to himself. He had shown up early to the engagement. That is to say, his first serious training session with his candidate meister, the girl named Raya. As far as he was concerned she was set up to fail. Resonance may give the two of them a greater offense, but overall combat effectiveness from his individual performance would be much, much lower unless they tried very hard to compensate. Luis turned looking off into space in wait.

Raya was a bit late getting to the forest than she thought she'd be. She had gotten lost - on accident of course - and had finally found the only forest in the desert. She blushed a bit in embarrassment and from the heat, her robe wrapped tightly around her again and an uneasy look on her face. She always wore that darn thing whenever she was scared or nervous, and she was definitely both of those things on that day. She spotted Luis with a small smile and started to trot forward at a quicker pace. "Hey, Luis, I-" she started, before tripping and falling flat on her nose, her foot entangled in a root of one of the trees. She sat up, coughing softly on sand and rubbing at a small scratch on the bridge of her nose, the blush on her face darkening in embarrassment. "Sorry," she said in a small voice, getting to her feet and walking over to him more carefully. She was wearing a white tanktop underneath her robe, with loose blue shorts and white tennis shoes, and of course her gloves. The clothing was a bit more revealing on her than usual, as it was very hot outside and she didn't feel like dying of heat stroke or dehydration. "I got lost. I meant to be here on time," she murmured softly as she reached him, a tiny scrape on her knee and a cut across her nose.

Luis gave a short lived frown at Raya's accident, but was quickly replaced by a stifled laugh. What a way to start out the day after all. Such grace, and form she had while walking. Luis shook the redicule of his partner from his mine, leaving a mild guilty taste that it had been there at all. "Well, if that's the worse thing that happens today we'll do just fine." He said in a lightly confident tone, walking the rest of the gap between the two, till a comfortable distance. "Anyways," He began, putting distance between Raya, and her embarrassment. "think you can do it again? More importantly, can you make it worth it?" He continued in a more serious tone.

Raya rubbed her nose again with a heated blush when she heard him laugh, though she quickly tried to chase the humiliation from her mind. She smiled slightly at him and nodded. "Of course I can do it again," she said with the tiniest of smiles, obviously still embarrassed. She actually looked almost like she wanted to cry, but was trying not to. She reached out her hand toward him, ready for him to transform again. She'd actually been pretty anxious to resonate with him again - she was excited for it. She liked that feeling very much, and even if he was going to laugh at her when she fell down, she still liked him a lot and was excited that they could be partners.

Luis gave a beatific smile. "That's the kind of thing I like to hear!!" He called out, before roughly clasping the girls hand, and disappearing into his weapon form. Taking another moment to grant himself focus, he begins his half of the connection process. It was already becoming easier to him really. "And don't forget! Resonating all fancy, or whatever, but there'll still be a fight going on!" He said in the mental link, reflecting his serious attitude.

Raya smiled at the sword in her hands and stood at a very good, solid stance with a good posture, as she'd seen the people in the books do. She took a deep breath, pretended that there was an enemy in front of her, and charged forward. However, she misjudged her footing and ended up falling head over heels, the handle of his sword hitting her hard in the stomach as she flipped over and landed on her butt on the sand. Her blue eyes were round and her white hair was a mess, and she looked very confused and out of breath. The handle of the weapon had knocked the breath out of her, and she had a hurt look on her face as she tried to take a deep breath again.

Luis would have face-palmed had he hands to do so. Instead he let loose with a long sigh. This wasn't a game though, and he had to be serious, even if they were taking it slow. "Hey! Get up already! If you aren't fighting, you're losing!" He spoke in a stern, but calm tone. "By the way, if YOU lose, WE die." He didn't mean to sound so rude, but what he said was true after all. She didn't have time to fool around if she wanted to win any sort fight.

Raya rubbed her eyes quickly and sniffled, getting to her feet and trying to take a deep breath again. Her stomach was hurting now, but she refused to cry in front of him over something so stupid. "I'm sorry," she mumbled as she picked him back up and got back in her stance, swinging the sword around lightly before slashing to the side. She almost lost her balance, but managed to regain it this time and swung him over and over again, pretending there was an enemy before her. Then she brushed her hand across her eyes again, knowing that she wasn't doing good enough at this. For the moment, she wasn't strong enough and she wasn't coordinated enough. She looked at the sword in her hand, panting softly. Still, she was rather proud of herself. She'd done very well for a beginner.

Luis mentally rolled his eyes. This girl was very, very green. It showed too. Even still, she wasn't anything to laugh at he supposed. He was unfairly comparing her to himself, who waded into conflict to sate his violent personality. "We're going to have to work on the stamina." He stated in a factual tone. "Do you do any sort of work-outs? Running... Anything?" He asked, his sentence trailing off with doubt. "Can't make a building with no base, or whatever it is they say." He finished.

Raya sat down with a bump and rubbed her forehead with the sleeve of her robe. "I... I go out for walks and hikes," she said, threading her bottom lip in between her teeth and looking at him tiredly. "But I don't run or do work outs or things like that. I'm not fat," she argued, a bright blush crossing her cheeks as she put her hands on her flat stomach. Raya was just about the furthest from fat anyone could ever get. She got to her feet again, scuffing her white tennis shoes on the ground as she waited for him to fuss at her. "I'm trying, Luis, I promise I am," she told him, avoiding looking at the blade of the sword.

Luis couldn't help but taste a little guilt. It was the first day after all. "I know that. I just want to make sure any problems are put out in the open so we can fix them." He bit his tongue. Was -problem- a strong word? "If we mess up a lot goes wrong." He began once again with things she already knew. Perhaps re-iterating was important though. "We get hurt, or bystanders get hurt. We only give our best right?" He ended in a confident, and reassuring tone. What was this girl doing to him? He just gave a pep-talk...

Raya hugged her knees to her chest and buried her face in them. "I don't want to cause any problems. I want to help people," she murmured softly, looking over at him and keeping her hands to herself at the moment. "I especially don't want to hurt you. I would hate it if I were the cause of my Weapon's pain or worse," she told him, closing her eyes tightly with a small sniffle as she hid her face, her hood falling over her head. She hated thinking things like that - what if she slipped up and he died because of it? She'd never forgive herself.

Yep, strong word. Better sooner than later in this case. Bad things happen out there, and that's the truth. "And as long as you try your best you'll do just that." He spoke in reference to the first statement. "And don't you dare worry about me. You just focus on your job, and I'll do the same." He ordered, only slightly stern. "Forget about that for now though. Stand up, and give it another go. Or do you think you'll trip again?" He gave a playful chuckle, and gave off a warm almost childishly carefree feeling.

Raya blushed a bit and smiled when she felt like he was loosening up. "But I have to worry about you, too. You're my partner," she told him, then her face heated up further when he mentioned her tripping. She hesitated, unable to promise that she wouldn't do so. "You're mean," she commented when he chuckled, getting to her feet and brushing her clothes off before she picked him back up, her hands gentle but firm and determined as she got back into her stance, then lunged forward again. This time, she managed to stay on her feet, but just barely. She swung the sword around with a bright grin when she did it more or less correctly, looking down at the blade with a haughty expression on her face.

Luis mentally smiled. Having no feature's was still something he wasn't used to entirely. At some point they would need someone to spar with, but it seemed pretty pointless for now. The girl would be tuckered out after a short skirmish. He would also avoid using his little propulsion trick til the girl got better balance. This was going to take a while. Better she was with an autonomous weapon that could compensate for her though. Luis realized that he had fell silent in thought for a while. "Getting the hang of it?" He asked almost politely.

Raya smiled slightly at him with a small nod. "Yeah, I think so. You're definitely heavy though, so that's going to be kind of hard to get used to," she said, putting the sword down on the ground. "I think I need to be able to defend myself in hand-to-hand combat, too, so do you want to try that?" she asked with a small smile, clearly a bit tired from holding him up for so long. She'd get used to it quickly though - she was a fast learner. "You can turn your arms into blades too, right?" she asked, standing up after she'd caught her breath, eager to try fighting him if he was okay with it.

"Callin' me fat now huh?" He said in a deceptively serious tone. He really didn't see the need for hand-to-hand either. "Yeah but... I think I'll lay off of the blades." And propulsion. He added quietly, and took his human form. He was definitely going to play defensively. If he hit her hard enough to make her cry he would never forgive himself. "Alright." He spoke with a sigh. "Let's get this thing over with."

Raya smiled slightly up at him when he changed back and got into a once again good stance, looking him up and down as if to study where she thought he would be weakest. After all, she was much smaller than him and needed to know where to hit. She bounced forward and tried to swing her leg around to try and hit him on the shoulder, though not extremely hard. She didn't want to hurt him, after all.

Luis bounced backwards to avoid, slipping his hands into his jacket. Without the help of his arms for momentum, he performed a butterfly kick in Raya's direction. "I'm not mocking you." He added in an astoundingly dry tone. In truth he thought it was important to gauge how far she had to go. He would probably be forced to use his hands, but still. If he was under-estimating the girl, it would be painful.

Raya blinked slowly at his tone and looked down at her feet, then bit her lip before she hurried over to aim a punch at his chest with surprising force and accuracy. She was definitely stronger than she looked, though she wasn't trained in any sort of martial art. She really didn't want to hurt him, either, but she wanted to prove that she wasn't going to slow him down. She then bent down quickly to try and sweep her leg under his. "I wouldn't blame you if you mocked me. I'm not good at this," she panted softly.

Luis almost wanted to berate her, for doing the same. Obviously, that would've been pointless. Something wasn't right. It seemed like she was holding back, but he had no way to tell really. "I need to know where the work should be put." He stated bluntly, hopping over the sweep, and extending his heel across towards Raya's shoulder.

Raya squeaked slightly when she felt his heel hit her shoulder and rolled in the sand before landing on her hands and knees. She hadn't been hit in quite a while, and she winced when she realized it had almost caused a panic attack. She forced herself to think about nothing but her goals, wiping furiously at her eyes before getting to her feet. "I want to show you that you aren't making a mistake," she told him, hesitating just slightly before running over to try to punch his stomach - the nearest thing she could reach.

Luis gave a frown. He's obviously been to rough on the girl. Not physically either. What bothered him most, was not knowing why he even cared. Luis lifted his leg, attempted hook it around Raya's arm. In combat this was unrealistic, and if not followed by a take-down Luis could lose his balance easily. The perfect opening for Raya. "Focus, and you'll do just that."

Raya jumped a bit when his leg swung around and was suddenly wrapped around her arm. Without even thinking, she jerked to the side, taking his leg with her before wrenching her arm away and falling flat on her butt in the sand, hopping up to her feet and getting into position to fight again, hurrying to try and swing her fist at his ribs.

Luis sighed to himself. He somehow managed to make her fall by unbalancing himself. Maybe this wasn't the right approach. Fine then. He would just have to get a little more serious so she'll stop holding back. Bringing his right leg across, he aimed to knock her arm out of the way. switching he lead his left around to her ribs.

Raya somehow managed to move to where his oncoming leg hit her right in the stomach, on a more tender part of the ugly scar under her skin. She fell backward and landed half on her back, the breath driven out of her. She put her hand over the scar, glad it was covered up, and winced as it started throbbing violently. Tears automatically sprung into her eyes and she sat up, putting her hands over the spot where he'd kicked her as she tried not to completely break down and cry like a little baby.

Luis cringed a bit as the kick landed. More so at the girls reaction. "You okay kid?" He asked in his usual tone. "You can still stand right?" He added, becoming a little quieter. Luis noted the girl beginning to tear up. Yep, he was too rough. In the end it was probably better though. She couldn't do this in a fight or they would be dead. He had to wonder how she ever made it into the "EAT" class at all.

Before she knew it, she had tears running down her cheeks. She hiccupped softly and held her hands over the tender area on her tummy, biting her lip hard as she tried to make the nausea go away. Of course, her efforts were in vain, as she ended up leaning forward and throwing up whatever she'd eaten for breakfast that morning. She shivered softly, unable to look up at Luis. She was so scared and so ashamed and hurt that she didn't know what to do, though she stood up with a wince, keeping her head down.

Luis ran to Raya's side as she stood. "You good?" He called, genuinely concerned. He was all too ready to carry her if he needed to. "Why don't we take a break huh? Just relax a bit." He continued. He was certain he didn't hit her that hard. He would never let himself live it down either. This may be only the second time he was lead to regret hitting someone/thing.

Raya took a quick few steps back when he ran over, her round blue eyes flooded with tears. "Please don't touch me," she managed to whimper, tears running down her cheeks as she held her stomach tightly. It was still aching. It didn't take much to make it hurt, as it wasn't very old to begin with. And besides, it was very much a mental thing as well. She sniffled thickly and brushed her hands across her eyes as she turned around to run off, not wanting to stay there and embarrass herself even further in front of him. The little twelve year old somehow managed not to trip over anything, having to stop and rest her hand against a tree on the way there.
